Sleeping Bears (Single)

about

There is a place in Northern Michigan known as the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore where sand, water, and sky create a breathtaking, awe-inspiring natural wonder. Not surprisingly, it has mythical dimensions as well.  According to the Legend of Sleeping Bear Dunes, attributed to the Anishinaabe, indigenous peoples also known as Chippewa in the Great Lakes region, a mother bear and her two cubs escape from a fire burning in Wisconsin and swim across Lake Michigan, to find safety. The cubs get very tired while swimming and fall behind their mother. Once the motor bear reaches the shore of Michigan, she turns, watches, and waits for her cubs. She gets one final glimpse of her cubs as they give into exhaustion and drown before reaching shore and safety. Distraught and forlorn, the mother bear lays down and falls into a deep, eternal sleep, as she waits for her cubs to return.  Two islands were created by a spirit known as the Great Spirit Manitou to mark the spot at which the cubs perished. These islands are known as the North and South Manitou Islands. The Great Spirit Manitou then covered the sleeping mother with sand, which became known as the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore.

“Sleeping Bears” is a romantic, enchanting, chill, ambient instrumental composed and performed with enchanting verve, resonance, and vibrance on acoustic guitar by James Filkins.
